Advocacy is an important part of preventing a generation of smokers! Senators, representatives, and other people in positions of power can help pass legislation that are anti-tobacco. By expressing the importance of anti-tobacco legislation and tobacco control, greater change can be made to protect the lungs of our future generations!

Support the Quit Because of COVID-19 Act

Tell your congressperson: Medicaid enrollees need access to life-saving tobacco cessation treatment.

H.R. 2125, introduced by Reps. Lisa Blunt Rochester and Brian Fitzpatrick, would ensure that all Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollees have access to the full array of proven tobacco cessation treatments at this critical time, when health experts are warning that smoking and vaping can worsen COVID-19. It will help to reduce the glaring health disparities facing our nation, save lives and improve health among Medicaid and CHIP enrollees, and reduce health care costs.

Use our easy tool to send a letter stating why it is important for these people in power.

Ideas on what to write about:

  • Why they should care about supporting/passing this bill
  • How tobacco has affected you, those you know, etc.
  • How increasing tobacco taxes had been long needed as it has been over a decade How action needs to be taken to reduce tobacco use in the US
  • How e-cigarettes is the most common among youth and needs the regulation
  • How because vapes are relatively new, it is more accessible to the youth
  • How second hand smoke can be reduced and therefore protects our people
  • How tobacco taxes are effective in reducing tobacco use especially in youth
  • How the taxes generated from this bill will be used to give back to programs: “tens of billions of dollars that could be used to fund the vital programs outlined in the American Jobs and Families Plans”
  • How this policy change would reduce health care spending and safeguard millions of Americans, especially youth, from tobacco addiction, illness, and death
